WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Lacrosse kept its hot streak alive with a 17-4 win against Nichols on Saturday afternoon. Fresh off a big win at Endicott in the middle of the week, Gordon took a 10-2 lead at halftime and never relinquished to stay unbeaten in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Nichols falls to 3-6 and 0-2 in the CCC, while Gordon notches its third straight win to improve to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Senior
Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) put home the first score of the game just two minutes into the opening period, an unassisted strike. Junior
Blake Orndorff (Churchville, Md.) made it 2-0 just a minute later off of the draw control on a feed from classmate
Kristin Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.).
Freshman
Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) and senior
Bailey Grinnell (S. Hamilton, Mass.) went on to take over a seven-minute stretch in which both players combined for five goals to put the Scots up by seven. McCarrick assisted both of Grinnell's scores in the middle of the run to quickly put five points in her ledger.
Nichols struck through the Gordon defense in the 14
th minute when an unassisted goal by Brooke Marion (S. Hadley, Mass.).
However, Castelline would notch two more goals and an assist before the end of the half to put Gordon up by eight at the break.
Gordon's three leading scorers kept up the pressure in the second half as the Scots began the second half on a 5-1 run through 15 minutes of play. Grinnell added two more goals to her total, while Castelline and McCarrick combined for the other three. Marion finished off her second goal of day amidst the stretch for the Bison.
The Fighting Scots ended the game on a 2-1 run to pull out the 17-4 victory.
For the Bison:- Marion completed a hat-trick in the final five minutes of the game. Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass.) contributed the other goal for the Bison.
- Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) made four saves in between the pipes.
- Nichols held a 13-9 advantage on draw controls for the game.
For the Scots:- McCarrick (5), Grinnell (5) and Castelline (4) made up most of Gordon's offense. Orndorff had her first multi-goal game, while MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.) scored for the second game in a row.
- Jackie Kiernan (Lexington, Mass.) made six saves for the Scots to earn her third straight win.
- Castelline now has 36 points on the season with a six-point afternoon and sits at fourth and fifth in career points and career goals respectively.
