Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

High-Powered Offense Leads Scots to Victory

WENHAM, Mass.—Jessica Castelline's (Concord, Mass.) big day paced Gordon Women's Lacrosse to a 16-8 win over Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Fighting Scots improved to 5-8 this season and won for the second consecutive game. Gordon is also 4-2 in the CCC this spring. Wentworth drops to 2-12 and 0-6 in the conference.

Castelline started her busy half just two minutes into regulation by finishing off a free-position attempt at the 28:12 mark. Freshman Hannah Bourk (Barrington, R.I.) put the Scots up by two of an assist from Castelline just a minute later.

Only 30 seconds passed before Castelline went on a three-goal run all by her lonesome, scoring all within a three-minute span to put the Scots up by five. Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) and Bailey Grinnell (S. Hamilton, Mass.) both assisted on two of the scores.

Senior Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) tried to kick start the Leopards offense with an unassisted goal in the 13th minute. The midfielder took a control off a disallowed Gordon goal and sprinted through the heart of the Scot defense for the goal. Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) brought the Leopards back within three goals with an unassisted strike before the halfway point of the opening period.

However, Gordon scored the next three goals to put some distance between the two teams. The home squad ended the half on a 6-1 run in total, as Castelline completed an eight-point first. McCarrick, Bourk and Grinnell all rounded out the scoring during the stretch, while Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) added a goal for the visitors.

Gordon continued its six-goal scoring run into the second half with goals from MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.), Bourk and Grinnell.

The Fighting Scots led by as many as 11 in the game before Wentworth went on a little spurt over the final 15 minutes of regulation. Paradis scored three more goals for the Leopards down the stretch as they closed the gap to eight before the end of the game.

Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) suffered the loss in between the pipes for the Leopards while making 17 saves on 33 shots on goal. Gordon sophomore Zita Nagel (Wayland, Mass.) made her first start of the season and made eight saves to pick up the victory.

Gordon took 20 of 26 draw controls and Grinnell ended up with half of that count.

Bourk had her first career hat trick after coming into the day with only two goals to her name, while Castelline had a season-high 10 points with six goals and four assists.

Gordon has a big test on Saturday when they host Curry at 11:30 a.m. Wentworth hosts Salve Regina on Saturday for its Senior Day festivities as well.
