WENHAM, Mass.—For the second year in row, Gordon bounced rival Eastern Nazarene in the first round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference men's tennis playoffs. After gutting out a 5-4 match last season, Gordon took care of business by taking the first five matches of the day for a 5-0 triumph over the Lions.
 
The Fighting Scots (16-5) move on to the semifinal round on Wednesday when they travel down to Bristol, R.I. to take on the top-seeded Hawks. Gordon accounted for Roger Williams only conference loss during the regular season.
 
Eastern Nazarene bows out of the playoffs after a 12-9 season.
 
Gordon's second doubles flight got things going with a sound 8-2 win over Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Andres Biondi (Barquismeto, Venezuela). Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) also played well for the Fighting Scots with an 8-3 win over fellow CCC first-teamers Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia).
 
At the third spot, Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) avenged a mid-season loss to the Lions, this time teaming up with Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) in a 9-8 (7-4) victory.
 
Daugherty made it a perfect day with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win at sixth singles before his doubles teammate, D'Antuono, finished off the match 6-01, 6-1 at fourth singles over Biondi.
 
Gordon is 1-2 against the remaining three teams in the CCC playoffs with their lone win coming at home against Roger Williams, 5-4.
