Senior
Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) had a foot in each of the Fighting Scots' first three tallies of the day to pace their high-flying offense to a dominant 5-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over the visiting Bison of Nichols College. The win improves Gordon to an impressive 4-1-1 overall on the year (1-0-1 CCC), while Nichols falls to 3-4 overall (1-1 CCC).
Cole finished the outing with two goals and one assist, while
Josh Cochran (Jr./Bellville, Ohio) posted a goal and an assist,
Matt Chartier (Fr./Concord, N.H.) and
David Cochran (Fr./Bellville, Ohio) netted a goal each, and
Danny Nkhalamba (So./Concord, N.H.) and
Tyler Modzeleski (So./Cazenovia, N.Y.) dished an assist apiece. Keeper
Josh Spoonhour (Sr./Greencastle, Pa.) needed just one stop to earn his fourth win in net on the year.
After a take down in the area at the 17:08 mark awarded the Scots a penalty kick, Cole stepped up to net his first of the day to put the Scots on the board and establish an early 1-0 lead. Following a foul on Cole in the middle of Nichols' backfield 15 minutes later, Cole dished up a perfect serve into the middle of the box to a waiting
Josh Cochran, who flicked the ball past Bison netminder Patrick Porpora (So./Westminster, Mass.) into the right upper 90 for the 2-0 lead.
Holding a solid advantage at the break, the Scots needed just 42 ticks of the second half to book their third of the day as Cole collected a ball from J. Cochran at the top left of the area and hit a driven ball just inside the far post to extend the Scots' lead. Chartier and D. Cochran followed suit, finishing from inside the six to the left post at the 58:24 and 67:04 marks, respectively, to build a commanding 5-0 Gordon lead.
And while Nichols' Tyler Brenner (Sr./Stuart, Fla.) was able to convert a penalty kick for the Bison in the 81st minute, that sign of life proved too little too late as the Scots' defense held strong to preserve the four-goal margin.
The Scots are back at it on Tuesday, September 20 as they travel to face off against non-conference Eastern Connecticut State at 4 p.m. Nichols will also break from league play to host Daniel Webster at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21.
