Sophomore midfielder
Jill Kefalas (Wenham, Mass.) netted what proved to be the game-winner with under 10 minutes to go in the first and junior defender
Kay Silveira (Bristol, R.I.) added her own just minutes into the second to lift the Fighting Scots past visiting Nichols College, 2-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action today on Gordon's Quad. The win improves the Scots to 2-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 in conference, while the Bison remain winless at 0-6 on the year.
Rookie keeper
Kali Denty (Fr./Marshfield, Mass.) had a quiet day in net for Gordon, needing to stop just one to preserve the shutout and earn her second win of the young season, while counterpart Brooke Downey (So./Middleboro, Mass.) turned away nine in 90 minutes of action for the Bison.
Gordon commanded much of the possession in the early going, firing several shots and earning a pair of corners to apply consistent pressure to Nichols' defensive line. Then, with about eight minutes to go until the break, senior captain
Kara Dry (Madison, Conn.) forced a Bison turnover in their defensive half which fellow senior captain
Chandler Stier (Redlands, Calif.) picked up and slotted perfectly to Kefalas, who touched around Downey and finished easily for the 1-0 lead.
Determined to extend that lead in the second, Dry collected a ball from freshman
Devin Lacroix (Candia, N.H.) in the midfield and fed an on-running Silveira, who set herself up with a few dribbles and hit a dipper from 25 yards at the 50:42 mark to provide all the insurance the Scots would need on the day.
Gordon returns to the pitch on Tuesday, September 20 at 4 p.m. for a non-conference matchup at UMaine Farmington. Nichols has just a day off before traveling to Pine Manor for a non-CCC tilt slated for 3:30 p.m.
