FARMINGTON, Maine—Rookie striker Lexi Potter (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) picked a perfect moment for the first collegiate goal of her career, scoring just 10 minutes into a 1-0 Gordon win over Maine-Farmington on Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Scots improve to 3-2-1 on the season, while the Beavers drop to 2-5.
Potter was able to dribble into the center of the box and avoid UMF goalie Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine/Mt. Blue) to score the unassisted goal in the 11th minute.
Gordon held a heavy advantage in shots over the course of the game and even more so during a possession-dominant first half. The Scots peppered the Beavers to the tune of 12 shots and four landed on frame.
UMF's best chance came in the first half when Haley Murano (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) was able to put a header on goal, but sensational keeper Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.) was able to make her only save of the game, keeping the beavers out of the net.
Thompson was able to keep the Beavers alive by making five saves on the day.
Gordon held a 20-8 shot advantage, at least doubling its opponents attempt in each half of play. The Scots also garnered a 7-1 corner kick advantage, while keeping pressure on their opponent's net.
UMaine-Farmington returns to action on Saturday with a visit from Husson University. Gordon is over .500 for the first time this season and will look to keep things rolling at Western New England on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
