Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Golden Bears Capitalize on Moment to Trump Scots

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Western New England Women's Soccer only needed a minute's time to create a pair of scoring moments early in the second half to allow the Golden Bears to celebrate their homecoming weekend on Saturday. Samantha Emmert and Danielle Dixon scored just 50 seconds apart in second half to push Western New England to a 2-0 win over Gordon.

The Fighting Scots controlled the pace of play for much of the day, garnering a 5-1 shot advantage in the first half, but with no true scoring chances. Gordon put six shots on goal in the second half, but all were stopped by Marissa Veilleux.

In the 49th minute, Emmert lifted a perfect ball just past the reach of freshman goalkeeper Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.). The goal was the first score allowed by Denty since the season opener on September 1st. The deficit doubled in stature just a few moments later when the Golden Bears stole the tip and took it back down for the score. Dixon put home a rebound on the play into the bottom right side of the net.

Gordon kept pressure on the Golden Bears for the rest of the game, including earning six corner kicks, but the Fighting Scots chances went unrewarded.

The Scots (3-3-1) will look to rebound on Wednesday when they host Colby-Sawyer at 3:30 p.m.
