Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scots Power Down Chargers 1-0

WENHAM, Mass.—Lexi Potter's (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) goal with two minutes remaining in the first half was all Gordon needed to beat visiting Colby-Sawyer in non-conference women's soccer action on a gloomy Wednesday afternoon.

The Fighting Scots overcame less-than-ideal conditions to beat the Chargers 1-0 and get back above the .500 mark at 4-3-1. Fresh off a tie to Castleton, Colby-Sawyer has its record dip to 1-6-1 on the season.

Gordon controlled the pace in the first portion of the opening half, putting three shots on net in the first 10 minutes, but goalkeeper Sam Mitchell (Chester, N.H.) came up with two saves to keep the Scots out of the net.

The play on both ends of the field was even, as the two teams traded looks back and forth, but to no avail. Most of the chances in the first half were off target, but each respective keeper made saves when called upon.

The Fighting Scots finally gained control of the contest in the 43rd minute when Potter finished off a rebound for her second strike of the season. Sophomore Asha Steele (Bedford, N.H.) was the catalyst of the play, putting a nice shot on frame that clanked off the crossbar and back into play. Potter was there to clean up the mess and put the Scots on the board.

Steele, playing in her first game in nearly a year due to injury, helped generate more offense with line mate Devin Lacroix (Candia, N.H.) in the central midfield.

Rookie keeper Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.) turned in what's becoming a status quo performance, making four saves during a flurry of Colby-Sawyer chances. Denty made one especially spectacular save to keep the Scots ahead by a hair.

The Chargers held a 5-4 shots-on-goal advantage for the contest despite Gordon holding the overall 16-10 edge in attempts. Gordon also earned three corners compared to only one for the visitors.

Gordon will host UNE at noon on Saturday to ring in the Homecoming festivities. Colby-Sawyer will look to get back on track with a weekend visit to New England College at 2:30 p.m.
