Box Score WENHAM, Mass.— Carrying the momentum from a thrilling five-set win over Wheaton College on Tuesday night, the Fighting Scots cruised to their second straight win with a clean sweep over the visiting Blue Jays of the University of St. Joseph today in the Bennett Center. With the win the Scots remain undefeated at home and improve to 5-6 overall on the year, while the Blue Jays drop to an even 3-3.
The Fighting Scots controlled the match from beginning to end, jumping out to a commanding 16-8 run in the first set. The Blue Jays tried to slowly chip away at the large Gordon advantage, but the Fighting Scots took the opening set 25-16.
Things only got better in the second set for the Scots, opening an 18-4 lead at one point, which is the team's largest lead to date this season. Saint Joseph rallied for four straight points later in the game, but Gordon close them out 25-11 to take a two-set lead.
The Blue Jays attempted to stage a comeback in the third when they took six straight points to hold an 11-9 edge. However, Gordon went on a 9-1 run coming out of a timeout and never looked back in a 25-14 set victory.
Gordon's even attack helped keep the Blue Jays on edge all morning, as no Scot contributed more than eight kills in the three-setter.
Mackenzie Hinds (Higganum, Conn.) and rookie
Amanda Snyder (San Jose, Calif.) led the charge with eight finishes apiece, while
Meghan Hokanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) put up five kills.
Maggie Risma (Hudson, Ohio) dug up 14 balls on defense and
Renee Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) set up 18 balls for kills.
Gordon had its second-highest ace mark of the season with 13 in total compared to only one service ace for the Blue Jays. The Fighting Scots also committed their second-least attack errors in a match this season, leading directly to the blowout.
