Box Score BEVERLY, Mass.—With its Homecoming crowd behind its back, Endicott Field Hockey built up a three-goal lead before ultimately taking down rival Gordon 3-1 at Hempstead Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Endicott junior Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) scored twice in the second half to pace the Gulls to their third Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the season.
The Gulls improve to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the CCC, with their lone loss coming to conference leading UNE. Gordon drops its third consecutive CCC matchup and now sits at 3-5 in its season ledger.
Endicott pressured Gordon's defensive end for much of the contest, but senior goalkeeper Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) and her battery mates were on their toes. Hicks made 13 saves in the game, while Gordon's defense added three more defensive saves to keep the Gulls scoring to a minimum.
The Gulls scored each of their first two goals, both by Wood, directly off of penalty corners over the opening 20 minutes. Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) picked up both assists in the first half.
EC's Melanie Kaleta (Bellingham, Mass.) scored just a minute into the second half to make it a 3-0 game before Gordon could counter.
The Fighting Scots finally got on the board in the 45th minute with freshman forward Sabrina Jandreau (Winslow, Maine) being the catalyst for the offense once again. She finished off a feed from classmate Mackenzie Gray (Carver, Mass) to give Gordon some life, but Endicott did not allow Gordon another shot for the remainder of regulation.
Briana Kowolenko (Brooklyn, Conn.), Karli-An Gilbert (Scarborough, Maine) and Abigail Seay (Marblehead, Mass.) each contributed a defensive save for Gordon.
The schedule does not relent for the Fighting Scots, as regional power UNE comes rolling into town on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
