BIDDEFORD, Maine — Gordon traveled to take on the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference action and put 16 shots on goal in its 2-0 win.
The Fighting Scots (5-4-2, 2-2-1 CCC) attempted four shots in the first 15 minutes of the game with two of those shots being saved by Emily Ashman. They did not allow the Nor'easters (5-7-1, 1-4 CCC) to attempt a shot until the 17
th minute which was saved by
Kali Denty. A couple of fouls on Gordon kept the ball in the University of New England's possession which set them up with two scoring opportunities. Both shots went wide of the net and Gordon regained possession on an offside call against the Nor'easters. That led to two shots in the 36
th minute, one by
Kyra Skurcenski which was blocked and one by
Naomi Shearer that was saved by Ashman. The University of New England had two more scoring opportunities in the last five minutes of the half, but one was blocked and the other shot was saved by Denty.
Taemar Shearer put a ball on goal in the last ten seconds of the half that was saved by Ashman to keep the score at 0-0 entering halftime.
The Fighting Scots kept up the pressure on offense in the second half as they attempted five shots in the first 16 minutes of the half to just one for the Nor'easters. That led to
Kiersten Klose's first goal of the season as she beat the keeper from 30 yards out. They put two more shots on goal in the next three minutes to set up
Jill Kefalas' goal which put Gordon up 2-0. The Fighting Scots retained possession for most of the rest of the game as they attempted 11 more shots the rest of the way and only allowed four shots. Two of those shots went above the net and the other two were stopped by Denty to preserve the shutout and seal the victory.
