DUDLEY, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Nichols in Commonwealth Coast Conference play and put 15 shots on goal in its 4-2 win.
The Fighting Scots (6-4-2, 3-2-1 CCC) started off the game fast on offense as
Lexi Potter's shot in the first minute was saved by Brooke Downey and
Jill Kefalas' shot in the fourth minute was blocked. They did not allow the Bison (4-8-1, 1-4-1 CCC) to attempt a shot until the 18
th minute.
Ashton Barkey put Gordon on the board in the 31
st minute as she took a cross that was deflected off a defender and put it past the keeper. Deandra Flynn tied the game in the 36
th minute with a free kick from 25 yards out that found the upper left corner of the goal. The Fighting Scots attempted two more shots in the half, with one being blocked and one being above the net to keep the score at 1-1 going into halftime.
Asha Steele scored in the 53
rd minute to put Gordon up 2-1. Nichols had a scoring opportunity in the 54
th minute, but Flynn's shot was saved by
Kali Denty. Gordon kept up the pressure as Steele put another shot on goal in the 60
th minute. In the 71
st minute, they attempted three shots in a seven second span with one being on goal and the other two were blocked to keep it a 2-1 game. Steele added another goal in the 75
th minute to put the Fighting Scots up 3-1.
Chandler Stier scored off a pass from
Jill Kefalas in the 77
th minute to stretch the lead to three goals. The Bison quickly responded in the 79
th minute as Danielle Barry chipped her shot over the keeper to make it a 4-2 game. Gordon kept the ball away from Nichols the rest of the game as they posted a 4-0 advantage in shots the last 21 minutes to seal the win.
Steele scored two goals for the second time this season as she also scored two goals in the Fighting Scots 4-1 win against Maine Maritime.
Gordon next travels to take on Eastern Nazarene in CCC play Oct. 18 at 5 p.m.
