QUINCY, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Eastern Nazarene in Commonwealth Coast Conference play and put a season-high 18 shots on goal in its 5-0 victory.
The Fighting Scots (7-4-2, 4-2-1 CCC) dominated possession from the start of the game.
Asha Steele put two shots on goal to put pressure on the Lions (6-10, 1-6 CCC) backline. Steele followed that up with goal in the tenth minute off a pass from
Ashton Barkey to give Gordon a 1-0 lead.
Lexi Potter scored the second goal of the game in the 13
th minute as she beat a defender and tapped the ball past the keeper off a pass from
Devin Lacroix. The Fighting Scots put four more shots on goal the rest of the half and only allowed Eastern Nazarene to attempt one shot in the 32
nd minute, which would be their only shot attempt of the game.
Gordon kept up the pressure in the second half as Potter and Steele combined for three shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of the half. Potter added another goal in the 67
th minute that was assisted by Lacroix to stretch the lead to three goals. Steele scored again five minutes later off a pass from Lacroix to make it a 4-0 game.
Tori Caswell received a pass from Lacroix in the 84
th minute and scored her first goal of the season to stretch the lead out to five goals. The Fighting Scots backline held strong and did not allow the Lions to attempt a shot in the second half.
Lacroix dished out a career-best four assists and tied the school record. Potter tied her career-best season with five goals this season. Steele scored two goals for the third time this season. She also scored two goals against Maine Maritime and Nichols.
Gordon tied a season-high with five goals in the game. They also scored five goals against Curry and are now ranked second in the CCC with 18 goals scored in CCC play.
The Fighting Scots next host CCC opponent Salve Regina for Senior Day Oct. 21 at 12 p.m.
