QUINCY, Mass. — Gordon traveled to take on Eastern Nazarene in Commonwealth Coast Conference play and scored a season-high three goals in its 3-0 win.
The teams both pushed the pace from the beginning of the game as the Lions (0-14, 0-7 CCC) put a shot on goal in the first minute that was saved by
Wesley Sprague and
Blake Troiani's header in the second minute sailed above the net. The Fighting Scots (10-4-1, 5-1-1 CCC) kept up the pressure as they attempted eight shots in the next 25 minutes of action while holding Eastern Nazarene to zero attempts.
Josh Beveridge's shot in the 19
th minute was just a little high as it hit the crossbar. Nabil Chamoun had a scoring opportunity in the 29
th minute that was stopped by Sprague.
Collin Surface received a pass from
Ricardo Infantozzi in the 38
th minute and headed it past the keeper for his first goal of the season.
Matt Chartier scored less than a minute later off a pass from
Noah Craig to put the Fighting Scots up 2-0. The Lions had another scoring opportunity in the 42
nd minute, but Anthony Monteiro's shot was saved by Sprague to make it a 2-0 game at halftime.
In the second half, Gordon kept up the pressure as they put all five shots they attempted on goal in the first 20 minutes of the half. Eastern Nazarene fouled
Josh Cochran in the goalie box to set up penalty kick in the 69
th minute. Cochran converted the kick to give the Fighting Scots a 3-0 lead. The backline held for Gordon as they did not allow a shot the rest of the game.
The Fighting Scots have won double-digit games for the fifth straight season. Head Coach
Matt Horth joins five other head men's soccer coaches who won ten or more games in their first season.
