WENHAM, Mass. — No. 4 seed Gordon hosted No. 5 seed Wentworth in the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament and put 11 shots on goal in its 2-1 win.
The Fighting Scots (10-4-2) got on the board early as
Devin Lacroix's shot in the eighth minute hit the bottom of the cross bar and crossed the goal line to put them up 1-0. They dominated possession for most of the first half as they had a 9-5 advantage in shots with seven being on goal. The Leopards (6-11-1) tied the game in the 40
th minute with a goal by Molly Donahue. They put another shot on goal in the 42
nd minute that was saved by
Kali Denty to make it a 1-1 game entering halftime.
Lexi Potter broke the tie in the 47
th minute as she received a pass from Lacroix and put the ball into the left side of the goal. Gordon's defense held the rest of the game as they allowed Wentworth to attempt only four shots in the half. Three of their four shots were on goal, but they were all stopped by Denty. Sidney Brogan put a shot on target with 22 seconds left in the game, but Denty saved it to seal the win for the Fighting Scots.
Gordon advances to the semifinals of the CCC tournament where they will take on No. 1 seed Endicott Nov. 1 at a time to be determined. The Fighting Scots played the Gulls on the road earlier in the season and lost 5-2.
