PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Gordon traveled to take on Rhode Island College in non-conference play and put five shots on goal in its 1-0 win.
The Fighting Scots (7-4) started quick on offense as
Josh Cochran attempted a shot that was blocked in the third minute of the game. Neither team would attempt a shot for another 12 minutes until
Collin Surface put a shot on goal that was saved by Charlie Tashjian. They held the Anchormen (4-5-1) without a shot until the 20
th minute as Komla Dogbey's shot was saved by
Wesley Sprague. The teams traded shots back and forth the rest of the half and neither team was able to gain an advantage. Gordon had a chance to score at the end of the half, but
Matt Chartier's shot was blocked with 17 seconds left in the half.
In the second half, the Fighting Scots started off quickly on offense again as
Tim Andrassy attempted a shot that we high above the goal in the 49
th minute. Rhode Island put two shots on goal in a four-minute span that were both saved by Sprague to keep the game at 0-0. They then attempted three shots in the 58
th minute with two of them being off target and one being saved again by Sprague. In the 65
th minute, Surface crossed a pass into the box that deflected off
David Cochran to
Tyler Modzeleski who scored to put Gordon up 1-0. Dogbey's header in the 73
rd minute hit the side post to keep the score at 1-0. The Anchormen put two more shots on goal in the 75
th minute and 80
th minute that were stopped by Sprague. They were able to get off on more shot in the 87
th minute that was blocked to seal the win for the Fighting Scots.
Sprague recorded eight saves and faced 13 shots. He has recorded three consecutive shutouts.
Gordon next travels to take on Endicott Oct. 7 at 3:30 p.m.
