Hawks Fly Over Scots In Double OT, 92-85

Box Score
In Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball action tonight at Roger Williams' Campus Recreation Center, the host Hawks rallied from a 16-point first half deficit to eventually hand the visiting Fighting Scots a 92-85 double overtime loss and drop Gordon to 12-10 overall, 9-6 in the CCC.

In the opening half, the Hawks held the lead for the opening four minutes of the contest before Gordon went ahead 12-10 on a Jaren Yang (Jr./San Francisco, Calif.) jumper. The Scots would lead by as many as 11 before taking a 35-27 edge into halftime.

In the second half, the Scots scored on three of their first four possessions, with Yang hitting a three-pointer to make it a 43-27 Gordon lead. Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) helped make it 36-43 in Gordon's favor with seven straight points, followed by a four-point play from Conor O'Brien (Sharon, Mass.) to pull within five with 13:50 left.

Gordon continued to hold Roger Williams off for most of the period but the Hawks continued to persevere. Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) came through for RWU with a three-pointer to give the Hawks a 68-67 lead with 1:30 left in regulation.

In the final minute, Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) put the Hawks up with a driving off-balance layup with 38 seconds to go for a 70-68 lead, but Garrisson Duvivier (So./Brockton, Mass.) responded with a basket of his own with 3.8 left to send the game to OT.

In the extra period, Yang led off with a layup for Gordon for a quick lead. The Scots would be ahead for most of overtime until Jennings connected on a deep three with 2:21 left to put RWU up 78-77. Jake Haar (So./Huntington Beach, Calif.) came back with a three of his own with 1:24 left to put Gordon back on top by two.

Neither team tallied another point until Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) sank a pair of free throws with just under six seconds left to tie the game at 80. On the ensuing possession, Yang had a pass knocked away with 0.2 seconds left to force a desperation tip. On the inbound, he found Duvivier in the paint for what looked like the catch-and-shoot game winner, but was called off by the officials to set up another extra period.

In the second OT, Jennings drilled another deep three at the 3:26 mark to give RWU an 83-81 lead. From there, RWU held Gordon scoreless over the following two minutes as the Hawks built the lead up to six. Roger Williams led by seven in the final minute to hold on for the win.

Gordon's effort was led by Duvivier with a 30-point, 12 rebound double double. Sam Johnson (Sr./Chatham, Mass.) just missed a double-double with eight points and a game-high 22 rebounds, while Yang finished with 14 points and five assists.

For Roger Williams, Coene finished with 22 points while Marini notched a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 12 assists. Jennings also recorded 16 points with Josh Syska (Peabody, Mass.) adding 17 points and seven boards.

Gordon heads to Wentworth for another CCC matchup on Saturday while Roger Williams (18-4, 12-3 CCC) travels to Endicott on the same day.
