LEICESTER, Mass.—Nico Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.) scored four goals to lead Gordon Men's Lacrosse to an 11-6 triumph over Becker on Monday afternoon at Alumni Field. The junior scored a season-high, two of which came in the fourth quarter after the Hawks cut the deficit to four and Gordon held on for its third win of the season.
The win lifts the Fighting Scots record to 3-2 while the Hawks remain winless at 0-4.
After Gordon jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the game, Blake Boutiette (Burrillville, R.I.) put the Hawks on the board on a pass from Blake Gordon (East Greenbush, N.Y.).
Gordon would respond with four unanswered goals to take a 6-1 advantage into halftime.
Becker got back into the game when Blake Gordon and Blake Boutiette opened the second half with consecutive goals to make the score 6-3.
After the Fighting Scots increased their lead to 8-3 with goals from Nick Palandjian (Belmont, Mass.) and Thor Rasmussen (Fairfax, Va.), Daniel Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) scored a man-advantage goal for the Hawks to make the score 8-4.
Once again, Gordon would fight back with three unanswered goals to take a commanding 11-4 lead.
With 5:38 remaining in regulation, Avyay Chaganty (Bridgewater, N.J.) tickled the twine on a man-advantage opportunity to cut the deficit to 11-5. Cruz Desrochers (Malden, Mass.) added a goal 46 seconds later, but that would be as close as the Hawks would get.
Bryan Parsons (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led the Hawks defense with four groundballs and three caused turnovers. Blake Gordon also finished with four groundballs; in addition to a goal and an assist.
Becker goalie Michael Krch (Justice, Ill.) made 16 saves in net for the Hawks.
Rasmussen scored his first collegiate hat trick, while Palandjian added another three points to his team-high total. Tyler Pauls (Littleton, Colo.) had three of the team's 10 caused turnovers and two players tied with five groundballs in the game.
Jay Gallipo (Dover, N.H.) played the entire first half to earn the victory, making three saves and allowing only one goal.
The Hawks scheduled to return to action on Monday, March 20th when they host Albertus Magnus at 6:00 p.m. Gordon will head to Clark on Saturday for a nighttime start in search of its fourth win.
