Catalanotto Controls Chargers to Earn Split

CLERMONT, Fla.—For the third day in a row, Gordon went 1-1 in a non-conference softball doubleheader. The Fighting Scots opened the morning with a solid 5-2 victory over Lancaster Bible College before falling to regional power RPI 13-0 in five innings.

Gordon (3-5) fell behind by a run in the first game of the day with an RBI single by the Chargers. However, sophomore Megan Jenkerson (McDonough, Ga.) kept her power streak going with another solo dinger in her first at bat of the day.

The Fighting Scots tacked on two runs in the second to take the first lead of the day by taking advantage of two Charger errors. Gordon added another unearned run in the third after Lancaster committed its fourth miscue of the game to make it a 4-1 game.

The Chargers took a run back in the top of the fifth, but Carleigh Petersen (North Hills, Calif.) doubled in a run in the bottom half to make it a 5-2 final score.

First-year pitcher Caitlin Catalanotto (Kingston, N.H.) continued her stellar play in the circle. Making her second start of the spring, Catalanotto struck out nine Chargers and kept her ERA well below two at 1.59 in 22 innings. Catalanotto has earned all three wins for the Scots this year.

Gordon ran into its stiffest test of its trip in the final game of the day against RPI. The Engineers scored in all five innings, building up a 9-0 advantage after three innings. RPI knocked in 16 hits compared to two for the Scots.

Jenkerson and Sarah Ryder (Telford, Pa.) were responsible for the two hits, both coming in the fourth. Jenkerson doubled and was thrown out at home on Ryder's single.

The Fighting Scots finish off the 10-game trip on Friday with games against Minnesota-Morris and Babson.
