MILTON, Mass.—Senior
MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.) capped off a furious three-goal rally, scoring the game-winning goal with 3:41 remaining in the game to beat Curry 11-10 at Walter M. Katz Field on Friday. The Fighting Scots trailed 10-7 with fewer than nine minutes remaining, but used a four-goal run in five minutes of time to take the first Commonwealth Coast Conference game of the 2017 season.
The Fighting Scots controlled the opening 15 minutes of action by trotting out to a 4-2 lead.
Anna Rourke (Hamilton, Mass.) totaled two goals during the run with Aston and
Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) grabbing the other two.
Curry bit back with the final three goals of the first half, claiming its first lead of the contest with 1:01 to go before the break when Malorie Knowlton fired one home.
Hannah Schilke (Westerly, R.I.) quickly evened the game at five to start the second half, but Curry went on a 4-1 run over the next 10 minutes to put the Fighting Scots in a big hole.
The Colonels continued to hold a three-goal lead until
Caroline Walton (Irvine, Calif.) broke Gordon's silence with 8:53 to go in regulation. McCarrick and Walton then both scored in the 54
th minute to draw the game at 10 goals a side.
Aston broke the home team's collective heart in the 56
th minute with the Gordon's eighth unassisted score of the game. The Scots didn't allow a shot for the Colonels the rest of the way to preserve their fifth victory of the season.
Walton continued her hot streak with her second consecutive game with at least three goals. McCarrick also had a hat-trick. Rourke led all players with four points, scoring two goals and assisting on two more.
Melanie Dwyer (North Reading, Mass.) claimed her fourth win of the year in between the pipes, making seven saves in the full-game effort.
Four Curry players scored at least two goals.
Gordon (5-3) will host Western New England on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
