Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Warriors Hold Off Scots, 18-7

MANSFIELD, Conn.—A strong run in the middle of the game pushed Eastern Connecticut to an 18-7 win over Gordon in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday. The Fighting Scots led 4-3 at the halfway point of the first half, but the Warriors went on a 15-1 run spanning 30 minutes of action to pull away.

The Fighting Scots suffered their first loss of the season and dip to 2-1 entering their final spring break tuneup at Worcester State on Thursday. Eastern Connecticut bumps its record up to 2-1.

ECSU raced out to a 3-0 lead just three minutes into regulation. Allison Wylie, Michelina Pinto and Paige Schneider all tallied goals to put Gordon in an early hole.

The Scots did not succumb to the quick disadvantage, using a strong transition game to chip away at the deficit. MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.) got the Scots on the board in the fifth minute on an assist from reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week, Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.). McCarrick then went on a tear of her own with three unassisted scores in a six-minute span to cap off a 4-0 run to put the Scots on top. The final two goals came directly off passes McCarrick stole in the Scots' offensive zone before sprinting past the Warrior defense for crafty scores.

Schneider evened the game in the 17th minute to spur on an 8-0 run for the Warriors stretching into the second half. McCarrick was able to temporarily stop the run at the 24:43 mark in the second half, only for ECSU to go on another seven-goal run in 14 minutes to put the game out of reach.

Caroline Walton (Irvine, Calif.) and Aston added two goals in the final 10 minutes to make the score closer.

The Warriors made the Fighting Scots pay for turning the ball over 22 times, scoring five goals off of turnovers in the first half to take control of the game. Eastern Connecticut turned it over 12 times.

McCarrick kept the conference lead in goals (13) and points (18) with another four goals and two assists to her name.
