Bantams Strut Past Scots, 18-3

WENHAM, Mass.—Trinity College put the Fighting Scots in a deep hole over the first two innings and never looked back on their way to a 18-3 win at J. Tec White Field on Tuesday. The Bantams improve their ledger to 12-9 this season, while Gordon drops to 5-13.

The NESCAC foe jumped all over the Scots from the start, turning several Gordon miscues in the field into a bevy of runs early in the contest. The Bantams quickly built up an 8-0 advantage before the end of the second frame with Carter Snyder (Lemont, Ill.), Matt Koperniak (Adams, Mass.) and Brendan Pierce (Hingham, Mass.) all delivering RBI's in some shape, way or form.

Half of eight runs gave up during that span were unearned on a trio of errors committed by the home side.

After Gordon scored on an overthrow in the bottom of the third, Trinity scored the next five runs in the game to open a 13-1 advantage. Johnny Stamatis (Ridgefield, Conn.) opened the fourth with a double to the gap before eventually scoring on an error. Ian Steckel (Winchester, Mass.) kept the offense going with a single to left to load the bases before rookie Alex Rodriguez (South Windsor, Conn.) tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly to deep right field.

Doubles for Koperniak and Snyder in the fifth pushed three more runs across the plate to give the Bantams the firm 12-run lead.

Dean Demers (Sandy Hook, Conn.) singled in Gordon's second run of the day, scoring Morgan Hyde (Thomson, Ga.), who crossed the plate both times for the Scots. Demers had two of Gordon's five hits in the nine-inning game.

Pierce had a busy inning in the eight for the Bantams, hitting a three-run bomb inside the pole in left field before heading back to the field for an inning of shutout relief. He finished the game with four RBI with three walks taken.

Trinity added two more unearned runs in the top of the ninth with the game well in hand. Koperniak contributed his third hit and second RBI of the game in the stanza.

Christian Hodge (Waltham, Mass.) tripled in the ninth before scoring on a sac fly from rookie Noah Dawkins (South Elgin, Ill.).

Alex Herbst (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) improved to 2-0 on the season by shutting out the Scots in two innings of work.

Trinity heads to Maine to take on Bowdoin for a trio of games beginning on Friday evening. Gordon hosts Fitchburg State at 3:30 on Thursday.
