Game Recap: Baseball |

Hit Parade Drives Scots to Share of Doubleheader

DUDLEY, Mass. – Gordon exploded for 13 runs in game one of a Commonwealth Coast Conference baseball doubleheader at Nichols on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots won the opener 13-2 before being handed a tight 3-1 loss in the series finale.

Game One: Gordon 13, Nichols 2
Junior Addison Tarr (Oxnard, Calif.) drove in three runs and sophomore Christian Hodge (Waltham, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored as the Fighting Scots 13-2 won in the opener. Sophomore Derek Hudson (Hudson, N.H.) allowed five hits and two runs (one earned) over seven to earn the win. He walked three and struck out four.

Sophomore Joe Assenza (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and freshman Kyle Bouchard (Fall River, Mass.) each drove in a run with a sac fly for the Bison. Junior StigErik McElhinney (Dracut, Mass.) was tagged for nine hits and eight earned runs in 4.1 innings of work in defeat.

The game was tied at two heading to the fifth before Gordon scored seven runs, highlighted by a two-run single from junior Matt Moffat (Stratford, Conn.). The Fighting Scots then put up five more runs in the seventh. Gordon had seven hits in the frame, all for only one base to knock McElhinney from the game.  At one point Gordon connected for a run of singles in four consecutive at bats.

The seven runs was a season high in a single inning for Gordon and the 13 runs scored in total tied a season high for a game. They also scored 13 in a non-conference win over Fitchburg St.  last week.

Game Two: Nichols 3, Gordon 1
Bouchard and senior Matt Hardy (North Attleboro, Mass.) each drove in a run in the first inning and Hayden held the Fighting Scots to seven hits in a complete-game effort. He walked two and fanned two as he earned his fifth win of the season.

Freshman Garrett Poole (Rindge, N.H.) allowed seven hits and two runs in three innings in defeat. He did not walk a batter and struck out one to fall to 1-3.

Gordon had a chance to potentially send the game to extras in the seventh when they loaded the bases with only one out, but Hayden was able to work himself out of a jam by getting two of the hottest bats in the Gordon lineup out.

All-Time Series
Today's games marked the 47th and 48th all-time meetings between Gordon College and Nichols College. Today's split moves the all-time series to 26-20-1 in favor of the Bison.
