Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Scots Fend Off Hornets, 18-3

WENHAM, Mass.—For the second time this week, Gordon Men's Lacrosse scored well above its season average to notch a convincing victory. The Fighting Scots led by as many as 16 goals, while 11 different players found the back of the net in an 18-3 victory over visiting Lyndon State.

Senior Day Saturday was one to remember as the Fighting Scots put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, bumping up their ledger to 5-6 in the process. The Hornets fall for just the third time in 2017 and currently sit at 5-3 overall.

The Fighting Scots controlled the game from beginning to end. Nico Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.) got the party started just a minute into regulation on a crossing pass from Nick Palandjian (Belmont, Mass.) that has become a staple of the Gordon offense. Nick Tozier (Winston Salem, N.C.) scored just a minute later and before the Hornets could blink Gordon rolled to a 5-0 lead after one quarter.

Palandjian kicked off the scoring in the second quarter, the first of eight for the Fighting Scots in the period.

By the time Billy Biegun (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal with 5:48 remaining in the third, Gordon pushed the lead to 16-0.

Lyndon State outscored the Scots in the fourth, 2-1, including a last-second Hail Mary play for Brandon Hunter (Glastonbury, Conn.) as time expired in the game.

Thor Rasmussen (Fairfax, Va.) celebrated his senior festivities as the game's leading scorer with a hat trick and two assists. Palandjian, Manganiello, Tozier, Jason Dantona (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Austin Early (Palmyra, Va.) all finished with two goals each.

Biegun had a game-high 11 ground balls with most coming off his 10 face-off victories.

Zachary Carey (Exeter, N.H.) had two goals in the game for the Hornets.

Both sides split goalkeeping duties during the game. Gordon came up with 12 saves, while Lyndon finished with 10 stops.

Gordon heads to Bristol, R.I. on Tuesday to take on Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Roger Williams. Lyndon has a quick turnaround with another road contest at Daniel Webster on Monday.
