Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Scots Hang Tough with Top-Ranked Gulls

BEVERLY, Mass.—Gordon Women's Lacrosse saw its good run through the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament come to a close at Endicott on Wednesday afternoon. The top-seeded Gulls built up a 7-1 lead at halftime and held off a Gordon run to begin the second before taking a 12-5 victory.

The Fighting Scots finish the season at an even 9-9, while Endicott (13-4) moves on to the championship game on Saturday where they will host No. 2 Roger Williams.

Gordon and Endicott met for the second time in a week, but the feel of the game in all facets. The Gulls left no doubt in the regular season, beating Gordon 16-0 on a soggy night at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Gulls continued their run into the second game by scoring three times in the opening three minutes to put the Scots in a quick hole.

However, MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.) would not be denied of a goal in the ninth minute on a feed from Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) to ensure no repeat of being held scoreless.

Endicott responded right back with the final four goals of the period, all off the sticks of Meghan Lennon and Emily Whitney. Many of Endicott's goals were as a result of a 7-2 advantage on the draw, while also forcing 15 Gordon turnovers over the opening 30 minutes. The Fighting Scots also struggled a bit on the clear in the opening half, going 5-for-14.

The Fighting Scots turned the game on its head to begin the second half with a 4-1 stretch. Caroline Walton (Irvine, Calif.) scored twice in a row in a three-minute span, before McCarrick added her 59th goal of the season to make it a 7-4 game with 18:18 to go.

Endicott was temporarily able to stop the run with a strike from Meghan Dutchyshyn only to see Aston add her second of the game with 13:14 remaining on the clock.

Gordon was much more efficiently in the transition game in the second half, leading to their early spurt. However, Endicott's decisiveness in the draw control game—15-4 advantage—allowed them to pull away with a 4-0 run over the remainder.

Whitney led all players with six points (3g, 3a), while Lennon found the back of the net five times for the Gulls. Endicott held a 37-14 advantage in shots for the day.

Gordon's Melanie Dwyer (North Reading, Mass.) made 14 saves, a career-high in the loss. Aston and Walton each paced Gordon with two goals.
