Scots Allow 25 Points Off Turnovers in OT Loss to Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Gordon traveled to take on Western New England in CCC action and gave up 25 points off turnovers in its 69-63 overtime loss.

The Fighting Scots (5-11, 3-6 CCC) started the game with a 9-3 run for an early six-point lead. The Golden Bears (11-5, 7-2 CCC) cut the lead down to four points by the end of the first quarter with an 8-6 run. They tied the game at 22-22 with a 11-7 run and then went on a 13-6 run for a seven-point lead going into halftime.

Meghan Foley scored nine points and grabbed two rebounds in the first half. Olivia Stark scored five points and had one assist. Sarah Gibbs scored four points, pulled in three rebounds, and dished out two assists.

In the third quarter, Gordon cut the lead down to one point with a 11-5 run. Western New England scored four straight points to bring the lead back up to five points by the end of the third quarter. The teams traded baskets for most of the fourth quarter as the Fighting Scots slowly cut into the Golden Bears' lead. Brooke Dyson made a shot with 1:33 remaining to cut the deficit to two points. Western New England missed two free throws on their next possession and then Gibbs scored on a layup to tie the game at 55-55 with 37 seconds left in the half. The Golden Bears had two opportunities to take the lead in the last 11 seconds of regulation, but Gordon forced misses on both shots to send the game into overtime.

Both teams scored on their first possessions in overtime. Western New England built up a three-point lead by making three straight free throws. Foley cut the lead down to one with a jumper before the Golden Bears closed out the game with a 9-4 run to seal the victory.

Foley finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Gibbs scored a career-high 16 points grabbed eight rebounds, and handed out three assists. Dyson scored nine points and pulled in a career-high nine rebounds.

The Fighting Scots next go on the road to finish their season series against Curry Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. Gordon lost the first game of the series 55-44 at home.
