MILTON, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at Katz Gymnasium and held them to a 21.8 percent shooting percentage in its 58-49 win to split the season series.
The Fighting Scots (6-11, 4-6 CCC) started the game with a 10-3 run in the first five minutes of action for an early seven-point lead. The Colonels (9-8, 5-5 CCC) closed out the first quarter with a 11-3 run to give them a 14-13 lead. Gordon regained the lead with a 14-8 run in the second quarter to make it a 27-22 game at halftime.
Jess Ryan scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds in the first half.
Sarah Gibbs scored six points, pulled in six rebounds, and dished out four assists.
Meghan Foley and
Brooke Dyson both scored six points.
Both teams traded the lead back and forth during the third quarter. The Fighting Scots tied the game at 29-29 with two free throws from Ryan. They followed that up with a 10-6 run to create a four-point advantage going into the fourth quarter. The Colonels cut the lead down to three points with 3:27 left.
Jenna Olson and Gibbs made layups to stretch the lead back out to seven points. Curry made both of their free throws on their next possession to make it a five-point game with 57 seconds left. Gordon sealed the win by making eight consecutive free throws to create a nine-point advantage with 16 seconds left.
Ryan finished with a career-high 17 points and also tied her career-high with eight rebounds. Gibbs tied her career-high with 16 points and also recorded 11 rebounds along with six assists. Foley and Dyson scored 11 and ten points respectively. Gordon held a team under 50 points for the third time this season in CCC play. They defeated Salve Regina 66-49 at home and took down Wentworth 68-43 on the road.
The Fighting Scots next host the University of New England in CCC action Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The Nor'easters won the first game of the season series 83-56 at home.
