WENHAM, Mass. — Facing the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Gordon's Bennett Center tonight, the Fighting Scots rallied behind a series of impressive offensive runs throughout the game to challenge the top-ranked Nor'easters but in the end came up just shy, eventually ceding a narrow eight-point loss (71-63).
Meghan Foley recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while
Sarah Gibbs also posted a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds.
The Nor'easters (13-4, 9-1 CCC) started the game with a 15-9 run for a six-point lead. They stretched the lead out to nine points before the Fighting Scots (6-12, 4-7 CCC) cut the lead to six points with a 14-11 run to close out the first half and make it a 32-26 game at halftime.
Gibbs scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds in the first half.
Kristen Smith and
Brooke Dyson both scored five points.
Gordon started the third quarter on a 11-2 run to take a three-point lead. The University of New England stretched the lead back out to four points with a 14-7 run to make it 48-44 at the end of the third quarter. The Fighting Scots tied the game at 53-53 with a 9-5 run in the fourth quarter. The Nor'easters closed out the game with an 18-10 run to seal the win.
Gordon next hosts Nichols in CCC action Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. The Bison won the first game of the season series 59-51 at home.
