After last night's marathon five-set win over Eastern Nazarene, Gordon Women's Volleyball had a quick turnaround as they traveled to take on WPI tonight on opening day of the Cardinal Quad hosted by Plattsburgh State, falling in four (19-25, 25-22, 20-25, 14-25) to fellow visitor WPI to move to 11-10 overall on the year.
Â
The Fighting Scots' charge was led by
Ashlyn Gergins with 30 assists, while
Mackenzie Hinds and
Amanda Snyder added 11 and nine kills, respectively.
Â
After a close few points of the opening frame, WPI went on a significant run behind the killer serve of Sarah Kwatinetz (So./Seattle, Wash.) to gain the early  momentum with a 25-19 win.
Â
The Scots rallied to start game two with more gusto, capitalizing on a handful of WPI miscues and receiving standout play from Snyder to knot the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 decision. As both teams settled in, the third game proved very evenly matched with five lead changes throughout, but the Goats pulled away at the end to take the five-point win and the go-ahead.
Â
With the match on the line, the Scots fought but in the end could not overcome the precision offense and stingy defense of the Goats, who put the pedal down to lock up the 3-1 win and spoil the Scots' undefeated week.
Â
Gordon returns to the court for its third consecutive day tomorrow to take on  St. Lawrence at noon and host Plattsburgh State at 2:30 p.m.
