The Fighting Scots played host to the Rams of Suffolk University tonight at the Bennett Athletic Center and offed their guests in straight sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) to up their home winning streak to four matches and improve to 13-11 on the season.
Suffolk jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first game, but Gordon capitalized off the Rams' attack errors to take over, 8-5. The Scots then utilized an 11-0 mid-game run to lock down a 25-16 win and establish the early match momentum. Just as in the first, Suffolk came out of the gate strong to mount an 8-3 lead in game two, but the Scots once again battled to level the game at 12 before making a series of runs and taking advantage of their opponent's miscues for the four-point W.
Like déjà vu, Suffolk started off the third frame with a 4-1 lead, but crawling back was Gordon to take the 16-14 advantage off a
Jamie Tafoya kill. The Scots went on to book five unanswered points behind consistent serving from Tafoya to lead, 23-16, and though Suffolk rallied back off a kill by Chidera Nwankwo (Sr./Canton, Mass.),
Amanda Snyder finished out the match with back-to-back kills to give Gordon the 25-18 game and 3-0 match victory.
The Scots have the rest of the week off until they host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Wentworth on Saturday, October 20 at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
Beyond the Box Score
- With tonight's win, Gordon is 7-2 since 2002 against Suffolk.
- Said Coach Sue Kelly, "I was pleased to see Jordan Shaduk and Hayley Robinson step up for injured teammates and make a huge impact. It was great to see Amanda Snyder return to the lease board as well. The team has some well-deserved rest days tomorrow and Wednesday before our big Senior Day matchup versus a great Wentworth team this Saturday."
- The loss snaps Suffolk's three-match win streak.
