Box Score Gordon College Field Hockey traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on the Golden Bears of Western New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action tonight, coming out on the short end of the 4-1 final to move to 5-13 (1-9 CCC) on the year.
Keeper
Julia Altman finished the night with a respectable 10 saves for Gordon, while midfielder
Mackenzie Gray tallied the Scots' lone goal for her fourth of the season.
Â
The Golden Bears got on the board early when an Ali Martin (Fr./South Windsor, Conn.) cross found the stick of Jaqueline Clark (Jr./Auburn, Mass.) to put the hosts up 1-0 just four minutes in. After trading shots for the next 10 minutes, the Fighting Scots used a penalty corner to their advantage when
Sabrina Jandreau sailed a pass to Gray, who buried her shot to tie the score at one apiece in the 15
th minute. A determined WNE squad answered right back only three minutes later, though, when Taylor Klesysk (Fr./Hamden, Conn.) finished Martin's second helper of the night to notch the go-ahead. The Golden Bears' offense was persistent throughout the remainder of the first, but Gordon netminder Altman kept the Bears at bay with three saves in a five minute span until WNE's Haley Daigneault (So./Longmeadow, Mass.) made it a 3-1 ballgame off a cross from Clark in the 26
th minute.
Â
Despite an aggressive Gordon attack in the final 35, the stalwart Golden Bears back line turned away each of the Scots' scoring opportunities to keep it a two-goal game. Gordon'sÂ
Rosalind Keeley did her part to keep her team in contention with a defensive save midway through the period, but WNE's Clark sealed the deal with a penalty stroke in the 65
th to secure the eventual 4-1 win.
The Scots are back in action on Tuesday, October 23 as they host the Nor'easters of the University of England at 4 p.m.
