Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scots' High-Powered Offense Sinks Vikings, 5-1

Hosting the Vikings of Salem State University in a non-conference women's soccer head-to-head under the rainy lights at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots' high-flying offense booked a trio of goals in the first half and another pair in the second to secure a dominant 5-1 victory and improve to 7-4 overall on the season.

Junior Lexi Potter and senior Asha Steele continued their hot streak on offense for the Scots with Potter booking two goals and an assist and Steele netting a pair of her own, while senior Tori Caswell chipped in a goal and two assists to round out the scoring on the night. Keepers Jenny Deckert and Giselle Maso split duty in net, combining for five saves.

The Scots first got on the board in the sixth minute when Potter finished a ball to the far left post from just outside the goal box for the early 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Steele converted a penalty kick following a foul on Salem State keeper Rebecca Sabino (So./Peabody, Mass.) to extend the lead to two. Caswell further widened the gap to a comfortable 3-0 in the 17th minute, burying a slotted feed through the area from Potter into the right upper 90. Though the majority of possession favored Gordon throughout the majority of the first, the Vikings took advantage of a scoring opportunity 30 minutes in when Keely Gallagher (Sr./Middleton, Mass.) fired a shot from long distance that skipped over a reaching Deckert to put Salem on the board.

That proved as close as the Vikings would get, however, as Potter and Steele recorded their second tallies of the night in the 59th and 76th minutes, respectively, off helpers from Caswell to put the game out of reach.

The Scots return to conference play on Saturday, October 6 as they travel to take on Western New England at 11 a.m. Salem State, now 2-6 overall on the season, hit the road to face conference opponent Fitchburg State at 12:30 p.m.
