Scots Corral Bison In 3-0 Win

Gordon College Volleyball hit the road for its final Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup of the regular season tonight, defeating the Bison of Nichols College, 3-0, to finish at 16-12 overall and .500 in the CCC (4-4) going into postseason play.

Mackenzie Hinds continued to lead the way for the Fighting Scots, collecting nine kills and as many digs, while Jordan Shaduk tallied eight kills and three blocks in the win.

In the opening set, the Scots jumped to a promising 11-4 lead thanks to the offensive efforts of Amanda Snyder. From there, they took advantage of several Bison missteps and clutch serving from Jessie Nason to close out the frame with a 5-0 run, 25-13.

The second proved more of the same as the Scots went on a pair of six-point runs and once again capitalized on a handful of Nichols miscues to take the win, 25-17, and draw within one of claiming the match.

Hayley Robinson got the momentum going in the third frame for Gordon, recording three aces en route to an eventual 6-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, Nason orchestrated another solid performance behind the service line to lead a 7-0 run and build a hefty 16-3 lead. Not to be outdone, Nichols' Lexxus Andrews (Jr./Uxbridge, Mass.) put the Bison back in contention with an eight-point run to inch closer, but the Scots had seen enough and broke up that streak to take the final set, 25-14.

With the win Gordon earns the No. 5 seed in the CCC Tournament and will travel to No. 4-seeded Roger Williams University on Tuesday, October 30 for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal clash.
