Pride Too Much For Scots In Non-Conference Matchup

Box Score Hosting the Pride of Springfield College today in non-conference men's tennis action at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots battled through over four hours of doubles and singles action but in the end came up short, falling to their guests, 6-3, to move to 0-2 overall.

The early going proved promising for Gordon as the No. 2 doubles team of Matt McEathron and Patrick Monahan recorded the first win of the day in comfortable fashion, 8-3, over Fred Moffa (Jr./Granby, Conn.) and Hieu Ton (Fr./Rocky Hill, Conn.). Springfield's Drew DeLorenzo (So./Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Jack Anastopolous (Fr./Chesnut Hill, Mass.) responded shortly thereafter, however, with an 8-3 win of their own over Will Jeffreys and Richard Ryzi to deadlock the match at 1-1. Then, after a long-fought, back-and-forth duel at No. 1, Court Honda (Sr./Marioka, Japan) and Jack Wheeler (Fr./Irvine, Calif.) got the go ahead win over Gordon's Nathan Lookwhy and Kristopher Marineau to give the Pride the slight advantage heading into singles play.

Despite Monahan grabbing a win over Ton at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-4) and McEathron gritting out a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 three-setter over Wheeler at No. 4, Springfield claimed a straight set win at No. 2 and a trio of three-setters at the No. 1, 3, and 6 spots to close out the 6-3 overall win.

The Scots wrap up their fall docket with a home match against St. Michael's College on October 13 at 1 p.m.
