Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Scots Command 8-1 CCC Win Over Host WNE

Gordon College Women's Tennis continued its winning ways this afternoon with a dominant 8-1 road victory over host Western New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference action. The win slides the Scots into third place in the CCC standings with an overall record of 5-3 (4-2 CCC), while the Golden Bears fall to 2-6 overall (2-5 CCC).

Gordon's No. 1 doubles dynamic duo of seniors Justine Hanson and Gabrielle Brucker got the ball rolling by recording a lopsided 8-2 win over WNE's Maylene LaPress (So./Bedford, N.H.) and Morgan Schrader (Jr./Burnt Hills, N.Y.) to improve to 5-3 overall on the season. The No. 3 team of Caitlin Kwok and Emily Ontiveros also comfortably notched an 8-4 result at the No. 3 slot over Rachel Bauer (Jr./Palmer, Mass.) and Jessica Cote (So./Groton, Conn.), while Kaelyn Hall and Anne Carsey closed out doubles action with an 8-5 decision over the Golden Bears' Petra Martinelli (Sr./Vernon, Conn.) and Kyra Palumbo (So./Albany, N.Y.).

With momentum on their side, the Scots took to singles play with a fury, allowing no more than two games per set in four of the six matches and conceding only the No. 2 head-to-head to cruise to the commanding win.

The Scots have a quick turnaround before heading back to western Massachusetts to take on Springfield tomorrow at 4p.m., while the Golden Bears await conference postseason play.

Beyond the Box Score
  • With a win at No. 2 doubles, Anne Carsey and Kaelyn Hall remain at the top of CCC No. 2 doubles standings (5-1).
  • At 4-2, Gabrielle Brucker holds a slight edge over Roger Williams junior, Riley Spillane, in CCC No. 3 singles.
  • WNE's Morgan Schrader improves to 6-1 in singles play on the season, good enough for fourth in the CCC standings at No. 2.
