Traveling to western Massachusetts for the second day in a row, Gordon College Women's Tennis took on a talented Springfield College squad in non-conference action at Springfield's Appleton Tennis Courts this afternoon, eventually falling to their host, 6-3, to move to 5-4 overall on the season. With the win the Pride improve to 2-0.
Â
Assuming their roles in the No. 1 doubles spot,
Justine Hanson and
Gabrielle Brucker battled the Pride's Melissa Parrish (Sr./Framingham, Mass.) and Rachel Ahlmeyer (Jr./Morris Plains, N.J.) but were bested, 8-4, to give Springfield an early lead. Gordon's
Caitlin Kwok and
Emily Ontiveros also rallied at No. 3 but were eventually handed an 8-5 loss from Emily Etter (Sr./Guilford, Conn.) and Rielly Malz (Fr./Glastonbury, Conn.). Determined to get the Scots on the board, the red hot No. 2 doubles team of
Anne Carsey and
Kaelyn Hall tallied the first win of the day, defeating Cara Freadman (Jr./Richmond, Mass.) and Hailey Higgins (So./New Marlborough, Mass.), 8-6, to close the gap heading into singles play.
Â
The Scots'
Anna Mullane helped generate momentum early in solo action by delivering a clean sweep (6-0, 6-0) over Amanda Hill (Jr./East Longmeadow) at No. 6, while top-ranked Hanson overcame a loss in the opening set to finish out a three-set win (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) over her counterpart Parish. Despite Gordon's best efforts, however, the Pride proved too much in the end, claiming victory in the remaining four matches to seal the overall win.

The Scots wrap up Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday, October 6 against Wentworth at 12 p.m.
