Playing host to Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's tennis action at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots cruised to a perfect 9-0 sweep over their guests to wrap up regular season play and improve to 6-4 overall (5-2 CCC).
Gordon got the momentum going with a fury in doubles, dropping just one game total in each of the three matches combined to carry a healthy 3-0 advantage into the solo matchups.
Singles played proved a similar story, as
Anna Mullane kept the hits rolling with a golden 6-0, 6-0 win over Bev LaChapelle at No. 4, No. 5
Madison West and No. 2
Caitlin Kwok gave up just one game apiece in wins over the Leopards' CiCi Deakin (So./Standish, Maine) and Ellen Butts (Sr./Brookfield, Mass.), respectively, and
Courtney Barlotta booked a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Hannah Erickson (So./Columbia, Conn.) at No. 6. The Scots'
Justine Hanson and
Emily Ontiveros had the most contested matches of the day at Nos. 1 and 3, but still managed to close out two-set wins over their counterparts Ali Sollecito (So./Taunton, Mass.) and Liv DeLuca (Jr./Dracut, Mass.) to preserve the shutout.
Beyond the Box Score
- With the win, the Scots secure the No. 3 spot for the upcoming CCC tournament and will host No. 6 Western New England on Wednesday, October 10.
- In their regular season matchup with WNE on October 3, the Scots cruised to an 8-1 decision.
- Courtney Barlotta stamped her first official match back from injury with today's two-set W.
