Hosting Endicott College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer showdown on Gordon's Quad today, the Gulls' persistent offense proved a little too much for the Fighting Scots, who despite a concerted comeback effort ceded a 3-1 loss to move to 2-2-0 in league play. The win improves Endicott to 3-1-1 in the CCC.
Senior
Kiersten Klose netted Gordon's sole tally on the day, while Endicott's charge was paced by Catherine Elkas (Jr./Holden, Mass.) with a goal and an assist and Jillian Presser (So./Trumbull, Conn.) and Gabriella Prisco (So./West Haven, Conn.) with one goal apiece.
After a dueling first half that saw both teams trading chances including a tag off the crossbar from Gordon's
Ashton Barkey in the 28th minute, the game appeared to be heading into the half at a scoreless tie when Presser sent home a shot from distance with five minutes remaining to give the Gulls the 1-0 advantage at the break.
Endicott seemed determined to get the game in hand in the second frame when Prisco polished off an Elkas assist in the 58th and Elkas booked her second of the season at the 63:46 mark to build a hefty 3-0 lead over their hosts. But the Scots refused to go down without a fight and inched closer at 74:05 when Klose recorded her first of the season after a scrum in the box to put the Scots on the board and close the gap.
In the end time ran out on the Scots' comeback effort, however, as Endicott shored up its defensive line to keep Gordon's attack at bay and lock down the two-goal victory.
The Scots return to CCC action as they host Roger Williams University on Saturday, October 13 at 1 p.m., while Endicott travels to Wentworth on the same day for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
