On the road in Troy, New York for their second matchup of the season, the Fighting Scots conceded a 77-62 loss to the host Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to move to 0-2 on the young season. RPI stays unbeaten at 2-0 with the win.
Gordon's offense was balanced on the day with four players recording double-digit scoring.
Meghan Foley led the way with 15 points and three assists, while
Brooke Dyson tacked on 12 points and five boards.
RPI's Elizabeth Eckhardt (Sr./Albany, N.Y.) led all scorers with 21 points, while fellow captain Lakissa Martin (Sr./Las Vegas, Nev.) put up 16 points, six rebounds to pace the W.
Tonight's matchup was the first time the two have met in recent history. RPI is slated to take on a Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent for a second time when they travel to Western New England on December 6. The Scots return to action on Friday, November 16 as they host the annual Gordon Classic.
How It Happened:
- The Engineers scored half of their first quarter points from the free throw line while Gordon relied on jumpers, as back-to-back threes from Foley and Dyson tied the game at six midway through the first.
- Behind a few layups, RPI pulled ahead (17-12) early in the second quarter, but Gordon relied heavily on a team-first mentality with four different Scots netting points to fight back to an eventual 25-25 score at the half.
- Alisha Henderson showed her range, sinking two from behind the arc to open up the third quarter, but RPI caught fire on offense led by Eckhardt's four three-pointers in a five minute span for a 54-37 lead heading into the final frame.
- In the fourth, Foley hit a three to close the deficit to 10, but that was the closest the Scots would get as the Engineers pulled away for the 15-point victory.
Beyond The Box Score:
- Brenna Otte's eight points is the most by any freshman this season.
- The Scots shot .471 percent from three-point land which is higher than all of last season (.423 percent against WNE on February 3, 2018).
