Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Blue Angels Glide Past Scots, 55-48

On day two of the annual Gordon College Classic, Gordon Women's Basketball dropped the final game of the weekend to the Blue Angels of The College of New Rochelle (CNR), 55-48, to split on the weekend and move to 1-3 overall.

Gordon's Meghan Foley led all scorers with 20 points and 16 rebounds while Brooke Dyson netted 13. Sarah Gibbs and freshman Hannah Vincent did work on the boards, grabbing 13 and six rebounds, respectively, to aid in the effort.

For the Blue Angels, Aaliyah Fields (So./Hollywood, Md.), Ashley Martin (Jr./Queens, N.Y.), and DarNeisha Brice (Jr./California, Md.) scored 14, 13, and 12 points with Martin also contributing 16 rebounds.

The Scots return to action on Tuesday, November 20 as they host the Salem State University Vikings at 5:30 p.m. before they break for the Thanksgiving holiday. CNR has almost a 10-day rest before traveling to Purchase, New York to face Manhattanville on November 26.

How it Happened:
  • The Blue Angels opened up the second quarter with a nine-point run behind the solid play of Brice, who netted four of her 13 points and dished an assist to Fields for a three-point conversion to give CNR the 18-8 with seven minutes to go until the half.
  • The rest of the second quarter was all Gordon, as Foley found her groove with 14 of Gordon's 21 second quarter points. The Scots took advantage of their freebies, going 8-8 from the free throw line to hold a 29-27 lead going into the break.
  • At the outset of the third, it looked as though the Scots would pick up where they left off after back-to-back jumpers from Dyson, but that was all the offense the Scots could muster up as CNR's Martin added seven more points to regain the lead, 40-34, going into the final frame.
  • A Megan Hasty three-pointer with 3:50 remaining brought the Scots within five, but that was as close as they would get as the Blue Angels' Brice and Fields rounded out their team's scoring for the afternoon to secure the seven-point win.

Beyond the Box Score:

  • Meghan Foley's 16 rebounds marks a career-high for the junior captain.
  • Today's game is the second time this season that the Scots have shot 100 percent from the free throw line through halftime.
  • The Scots are 0-2 this year when two or fewer players score in double figures.
