Traveling to Hartford, Connecticut this afternoon for a non-conference head-to-head, Gordon College Women's Basketball faced the Trinity College Bantams at the Ray Oosting Gymnasium where the undefeated hosts kept their unbeaten streak alive defeating the Fighting Scots, 80-29.
The Bantams senior leadership of Becky Reifler (Sr./Garden City, N.Y.), Erin Cunningham (Sr./Wilton, Conn.), and Courtney Erickson (Sr./Everett, Mass.) led all scorers with 14, 13, and 12 points, respectively. Trinity's bench aided the dominant win by putting up an impressive 28 points.
After a Thanksgiving break layoff, the Scots struggled to find their rhythm offensively, not having a scorer in double digits for the first time all season.
Alisha Henderson scored nine points, while
Brooke Dyson collected six points and four rebounds.
The Scots look to bounce back on Wednesday as they open Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at Wentworth at 5:30 p.m.
How It Happened:
- The Bantams spread the ball around nicely, having four different scorers for the first nine points of the game.
- Trinity was consistent from behind the arc, going 8-12 (66.7 percent) in the first half to catapult them to a 47-15 lead at the half.
- The Scots were not able to shut the red-hot Bantams down as Trinity outscored Gordon 20-7 in the third quarter. Henderson highlighted the frame for the Scots with a three-pointer to close it out.
- Henderson drained another three early in the fourth for Gordon, but the overpowering Trinity offense sealed the deal and cruised to an eventual 51-point victory and fourth consecutive win.
Beyond The Box Score:
- The Scots have crossed off six of the nine non-conference games on their 2018-19 schedule. Only Brandeis (December 8), Anna Maria (December 13), and Albertus Magnus (December 15) remain.
- Tonight's contest was just the second time the two have met with the first being last season where Trinity defeated the Scots 81-70.
- Trinity's 80-points equals their highest scoring total on the young season, where they defeated Mitchell in their season-opener, 80-50.
