Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Colonels March Past Scots In CCC Action

In the second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tilt of the early season, Gordon Women's Basketball welcomed the Colonels of Curry College to the Bennett Athletic Center this afternoon and came out on the short end of a 53-37 final, moving both teams to a level 1-1 record in the CCC.

The Scots were led by forward Sarah Gibbs who netted 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds, followed by Brooke Dyson with eight points and five boards.

The Colonels got help all around with Peyton Perine (Fr./Fairfax, Va.) tallying 14 points, Molly Plunkett (Sr./Quincy, Mass.) 12, and Emily Erwin (Sr./Billerica, Mass.) 11 on the afternoon.

The Scots look to bounce back on Tuesday, December 4 as they host Western New England University for a 5:30 p.m. start, while the Colonels host Nichols College on the same day at 7:30 p.m.

How It Happened:
  • Both teams matched up well with Curry being the first to pull ahead with a four-point lead twice in the first quarter. Gordon battled back with help from Gibbs who scored five of the Scots' final nine points to lead 14-12 going into the second.
  • The second was a much different story as Curry outscored the Scots, 15-6, behind 13 combined points from Plunkett and Perine to give the Colonels a 27-20 advantage going into the break.
  • Dyson rallied the Scots by netting back-to-back jumpers in the third to lessen the gap to five, but Curry earned a comfortable 12-point lead with three minutes remaining to enter the final frame with a 40-28 lead.
  • Again, a clutch Dyson nailed a three-pointer to bring the Scots within seven in the fourth, but that was the closest Gordon could get as Curry pulled away with a nine-point run to solidify their 16-point victory.
Beyond The Box Score:
  • The Scots have split the season series against the Colonels in each of their last two seasons. They will look to tip the scales in their favor as they travel to Milton for a rematch on February 2.
  • Sarah Gibbs' three blocks today are a season-high for the junior.
  • Freshman Peyton Perine has scored in double digits in four of the Colonels' seven games this season.
