Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Falcons Soar Past Scots In Final Non-Conference Contest

On the road for their last contest of 2018, Gordon Women's Basketball made the trek to New Haven, Connecticut to square off against the Falcons of Albertus Magnus, who snapped the Fighting Scots' two-game win streak with a 78-44 decision.

The now 10-1 Falcons were led by a near trifecta of double-doubles thanks to Jill Johnson (Sr./New Haven, Conn.) who had 19 points and nine boards, Raegon Shirling-Davis (So./Waterbury, Conn.) with 17 points and 12 boards, and Rah Rah Thompson (Jr./Bridgeport, Conn.) with 13 points and 15 boards.

Gordon's Meghan Foley led all scorers with 25 points and Sarah Gibbs recorded yet another double-double with 10 points and 14 boards, while Hannah Vincent had an outstanding day with 12 boards and six points to aid in the Scots' effort.

How It Happened
  • Thompson opened the game hitting two jumpers in a row to give the Falcons the 4-0 lead early, but Foley and Gibbs quickly paired up to tie the game at four all. Johnson fought for a layup to take an 11-6 lead, but with Gordon still grinding, Gibbs answered with a jumper of her own to trail by just three midway through the first. The Falcons outscored the Scots 9-2 to close out the first frame and double up their opponents, 20-10.
  • The second was the lowest scoring total for either team as both struggled to shoot in rhythm. The Falcons gained the upper hand, however, with a 13-9 scoring edge to extend their lead to 33-19 going into the break.
  • A nine-point Falcons run was interrupted by a Foley jumper to begin the third quarter, but Albertus Magnus went right back into shooting mode, leading by as many as 25 after a Shirling-Davis three put them up 46-21 with just under four minutes to go in the third.
  • Although both teams had their most successful point production in the fourth, the Falcons only added to their growing lead, but some stingy defense from the Scots limited them from going on a significant run. Flying high on their home court, the Falcons, who already had the game in control, hit back-to-back threes in the final 30 seconds to take the 78-44 victory over the Scots.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Freshman Hannah Vincent recorded a career-high 12 rebounds and six points.
  • Today marks the third time this season that there has been two players in double digit rebounds for Gordon, with Gibbs being a part of all three (CNR, Wentworth, Albertus Magnus).
  • The win for Albertus Magnus ties the all-time series record between the two teams at 1-1, as the Scots took a 68-38 W over the Falcons back in 2006.
