Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Foley’s 1000th Not Enough As UNE Storms Past Scots, 83-58

Traveling to Biddeford, Maine for the first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup of 2019, Gordon College Women's Basketball took on top-ranked University of New England and was dealt an 83-58 loss.

For the Nor'easters, Sadie Nelson (Jr./Windham, Maine), Jocelyn Chaput (Jr./Nashua, N.H.), Madalyn Sanborn (So./Lyndonville, Vt.) led the way for the home team.

The Scots were led by newly appointed 1,000-point club member, Meghan Foley, who led all scorers with 28, followed by Sarah Gibbs and Jess Wall who added 13 and 12 points, respectively, to aid in the effort.

How It Happened:
  • The high-scoring Nor'easters opened the game on an 8-0 run. UNE led by as many as 16 after a three from Elyssa Nicholas (So./Southborough, Mass.) to take a 20-4 lead.
  • The Scots found their groove through Jess Wall in the second, who scored seven points. Gordon trailed 24-42 headed into the break.
  • In the third, Nelson and Foley both put up 13 points for Gordon, but UNE still had the upper hand to carry a 68-42 advantage going into the final frame.
  • With a career milestone in sight, Foley turned it on quickly, seeing nothing but net as she notched her 1,000th career point from the foul line almost halfway though the fourth.
  • Although the Scots outscored the Nor'easters in the fourth, UNE built its largest lead of the game (32) with 4:25 left in the fourth en route to their third CCC win of the year.

Beyond the Box Score:
  • Meghan Foley marks the 14th Fighting Scot to join the 1,000th point club, sliding into 13th place with 1,005 career points.
  • Jess Wall also had a noteworthy night, marking a career-high 12 points in the effort.
  • For UNE, Sadie Nelson had a career-high with 27 points.
