Scots Run Past Bison In OT

Wrapping up a four-game road trip, Gordon College Women's Basketball traveled to Dudley, Massachusetts and brought home a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win as the Scots outpaced the Bison in OT, 64-61 to improve to 2-3 in CCC play.

The Bison's efforts were led by Jessica Larsh (Jr./Bolton, Conn.) who had 15 points and eight rebounds, Isabella Nerney (So./Guilford, Conn.) with 13 points, and Shannon St. Lawrence (So./Milton, N.H.) who had a double double with 11 points and as many assists.

For the victors, Meghan Foley led all-scorers with a double-double netting 26 points and 14 boards, eleven was the lucky number for the Scots as Sarah Gibbs booked 11 points and 11 boards, Brooke Dyson had 11 points, and rounding out the top scorers was Alisha Henderson who also had 11 for Gordon.

Nichols travels to Western New England on Tuesday, January 8 to face the Golden Bears at 5:30 p.m. while the Scots host Endicott on Thursday, January 10 for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

How It Happened
  • Both teams put up their lowest numbers in the first with neither scoring in double digits. Nichols led 8-6 heading into the second frame.
  • After two made free throws from the charity stripe, Henderson brought the Scots within two with under two minutes remaining till half. Back to back three pointers from Larsh however would extend the lead for the Bison 24-18 going into the break.
  • The Scots outscored Nichols 21-12 in the third spreading the ball around between five different scorers with Henderson sinking a three to take the edge 39-36 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Neck and neck, Lawrence hit a free throw with 6:26 left in regulation to tie it at 42 all. The Bison looked to have the game in control, leading the Scots for the remainder of the quarter before Dyson hit a clutch three to tie the game at 52 with just 35 ticks remaining to send the game into overtime.
  • It was all Gordon in OT, as Foley led the Scots scoring nine of their 12 points, never giving up the lead for the rest of the game and picking up a solid CCC road win, 64-61.

Beyond The Box Score
  • This marks the second time this season that four Scots have scored in double-digits.
  • Alisha Henderson had a season-high three assists.
  • As said by Head Coach Carter Shaw: "We struggled to get an offensive flow going in the first half but we were able to make the most of some scoring opportunities in the third. Delaney McDonnell made a big FT near the end of regulation and then Brooke Dyson stepped up and made a huge three to tie the game and ultimately send it into overtime. We did a nice job throughout the game of getting to the FT line but really capitalized in overtime."
