Hosting the Brandeis University Judges this afternoon at the Bennett Athletic Center, Gordon College Women's Basketball held its guests to their lowest scoring total of the season en route to a 57-48 victory.
Fighting Scots junior
Brooke Dyson couldn't miss, leading all scorers with a career-high 26 points, while
Alisha Henderson added 11 points and three steals in the win.
Â
The Judges saw production from Camila Casaneuva (So./Santa Barbara, Calif.) who led her team with 11 points and nine rebounds, Sarah Jaromin (Sr./E. Greenbush, N.Y.) who netted nine and grabbed eight rebounds, and Amber Graves who added 10 points.
Â
How It Happened:
- Jaromin opened the first scoring four of her team's six points before the Scots' Laura Paquette cut the lead in half, draining a shot from three-point land.
- Though trailing 21-14 after the first, Dyson hit four three-pointers in a row to tie the game at 26 with six minutes remaining in the half. Gordon secured their freebies, as Gibbs and Henderson netted four from the stripe to give Gordon a 32-26 lead at the midway point.
- Back-to-back layups from Abdelrehim brought the Judges within two before Dyson hit yet another from behind the arc to build the lead to five. A Henderson three extended the lead to 13 with just under a minute remaining before Brandeis' Amber Graves (Jr./La Canada, Calif.) answered back with a jumper to narrow the gap for the visitors. However, Jess Wall hit a layup with seconds remaining to make it a 50-37 ballgame going into the final quarter.
- Despite Brandeis owning the scoring advantage in the final frame and cutting the deficit at one point to single-digits, it was not enough to overtake the Scots' hot streak from the previous quarters and Gordon closed out the non-conference duel with a nine-point W.
Beyond The Box Score:
- Brooke Dyson had a remarkable day for the Scots, tying Gordon's single game three-point record with eight threes. The last time the record was challenged was when Kim Levinsky tied her own record from earlier in the same season back in 2010.
- The Scots came back from an 11-point deficit which is their largest comeback of the season.
- With the win Gordon takes its first ever win against Brandeis in their three total meetings.
- Said Head Coach Carter Shaw: "Our players had tremendous poise and focus against Brandeis' defense and executed well throughout the game. Our execution allowed us to get some open looks from the perimeter and Brooke Dyson and Alisha Henderson did a great job of stepping up and taking advantage.  Our defensive effort, particularly in the second and third quarter, set the tone for a strong fourth quarter finish. We got stops and secured defensive rebounds that prevented Brandeis from making a big run. I was really proud of the team this afternoon."
