Scots Fall to Seahawks in Regular Season Finale

NEWPORT, R.I. — Gordon traveled to play Salve Regina in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at the Rodgers Recreation Center and shot 72.2 percent from the free-throw line in its 53-44 loss.

The Seahawks (13-11, 10-8 CCC) started the game with a 12-4 run for an eight-point lead. They stretched the lead to 13 points and then the Fighting Scots (8-17, 6-12 CCC) countered with a 5-3 run to close out the first half and make it a 26-15 game at halftime.

Meghan Foley scored eight points and grabbed two rebounds in the first half. Gordon pulled in 19 rebounds including six offensive rebounds in the half.

Salve Regina started the third quarter with a 16-8 run to stretch the lead out to 19 points. The Fighting Scots managed to trim the deficit to 13 points by the end of the quarter. The Seahawks brought their lead back up to 15 points with 5:42 left in the game. Gordon responded by scoring nine straight points to cut the lead down to six with 2:29 left. Kerri Beland made a three-pointer on Salve Regina's next possession to make it a nine-point game. Jenna Olson and Jess Ryan made four consecutive free throws to cut the lead back down to five with 44 seconds left. The Seahawks closed out the game by making four out of their six free throws to seal the win.

Foley finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Ryan scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out two assists. Sarah Gibbs led the team with six rebounds and also scored four points and recorded two steals. Four players on the team had five or more rebounds in the game.

The Fighting Scots earned the seventh seed in the CCC Tournament and will travel to play No. 2 seed Roger Williams in the quarterfinals of the tournament Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. Gordon last played the Hawks in the CCC Tournament in the quarterfinals during the 2004-05 season.

"Each practice and game are opportunities to build and reinforce successful habits so playing in the post-season is a tremendous chance to experience continued individual and program growth.
