SALEM, Mass. — Gordon traveled to take on Salem State in non-conference play at Alumni Field and put 20 shots on goal in its 9-2 win.
Jason Dantona put the Fighting Scots (2-0) on the board in the 6
th minute with an unassisted goal.
Tytus Moen and
Austin Early each added another goal to put Gordon up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Vikings (0-2) scored in the 17
th minute to cut the lead to two goals. Neither team scored the rest of the second quarter to make it a 3-1 game at halftime.
Nico Manganiello scored in the 32
nd minute off a pass from Dantona to stretch the lead back out to three goals. Early, Dantona, and Nick Palandijian each scored in the third quarter to make it 7-1 going into the fourth quarter. Early scored again a minute and a half into the fourth quarter to make it 8-1. Alex Stokowski scored in the 48
th minute to make it 8-2. Salem State attempted ten more shots the rest of the game with five being on goal, but they were all saved by
Jay Gallipo. Palandijian added another goal off a pass from Early with 4:13 left to close out the game.
Early led the team with three goals and also had one assist. Palandijian and Dantona both scored two goals and dished out one assist.
Billy Biegun won eight faceoffs and led the team with six ground balls.
Gallipo tied his career-high with 18 saves and faced 33 shots.
The Fighting Scots next host Eastern Connecticut State in non-conference action March 3 at 4 p.m.
