WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Worcester State in non-conference action at the Brigham Athletic Complex in its home opener and scored nine goals in the first half in its 14-12 win.
The Fighting Scots (1-1) scored 28 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal by
Paige Thompson. Alexis Vecchiarelli scored twice in a two-minute span to put the Lancers (0-2) up 2-1.
Olivia McCarrick tied the game in the 12
th minute with her third goal of the season. Mackenzie Little scored off a pass from Vecchiarelli to put them up 3-2. Gordon scored five goals in a nine-minute span to take a 7-3 lead. Worcester State scored three goals in the last 4:21 of the first half to two goals for the Fighting Scots to make it 9-5 going into halftime.
The Lancers scored five straight goals in the first 17 minutes of the second half to take a 11-9 lead. Gordon regained the lead by scoring three goals in the next six minutes to make it 12-11. Kylie Farrell tied the game at 12-12 with a goal off a pass from Abby Magnuson with 4:54 left. McCarrick scored two goals in the last 3:10 of the half and Kaitlin Ober saved two shots to seal the win.
McCarrick scored five goals, dished out two assists, recorded five draw controls, and grabbed two ground balls. Dyer scored three goals and dished out three assists.
Sabrina Jandreau led the team with four ground balls while
Zita Nagel led the team with three caused turnovers.
Ober recorded seven saves in her first career start.
The Fighting Scots next host Elms in non-conference play March 3 at 11:30 a.m.
