CLERMONT, Fla. — Gordon opened the season with games against Bates and Ursinus in the PFX Games held at Hancock Park. Gordon lost to Bates 15-5 and to Ursinus 7-0.
In the first game, the Bobcats (8-1) scored 12 runs in the first three innings. The Fighting Scots (0-2) got on the board in the bottom of the third inning as
Karissa Hatchell hit a single to drive in
Emily Kline. They added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth as
Lily Rivera hit a three-RBI double and later scored off a ground out by Kline. Bates added two more runs in the top of the sixth to seal the win.
Hatchell batted 1-for-4 with one RBI. Rivera went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run.
Caitlin Catalanotto and
Kristen Brown combined to strike out four batters.
In game two, the Bears (7-3) scored three runs in the bottom of the first. The Fighting Scots loaded the bases in the top of the fifth, but were unable to score as they had two groundouts to end the inning. Ursinus added two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to stretch the lead to seven runs. Both teams combined to leave 15 runners on base.
Gordon next plays UMass Boston and SUNY Geneseo tomorrow March 11 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Â
